DESCRIPTION:
This package contains the ROM Update Utility (RUU) and ROM image for the iPAQ 612 and 612c Business Navigator devices and operating systems.

IMPORTANT: The RUU is designed to replace the current ROM image and to erase the partnership and all user data and programs on the iPAQ 612 and 612c Business Navigator. This ROM update includes all the enhancements and fixes listed below in this release note. It is advised that you back up all your data before performing an update. The SKU IDs are:

FIXES:

1. Enables cell broadcasting through channel 50 for Brazilian and Mexican carriers.
2. Enables active subscription when using Optus Australia 3G Dual Subscription SIM.
3. Enables device to dial ‘000’ when device is in SIM PIN Locked state.
4. Fixes the issue that Wi-Fi connection cannot be used if a new GPRS connection has been added or modified.
5. Enables full Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) messages display.
6. Enables HP DataConnect application to update network settings after SIM card has been changed.
7. Corrects the phone signal strength indicator Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI).
8. Fixes pre-paid SIM card compatibility with Vibo 3G (Taiwan operator).
9. Enables user to receive MMS When using FETNET (Taiwan operator) network.
10. Fixes SIM card compatibility issues for the following carriers: Vodafone Spain, PCCW Hong Kong, Comcel Columbia, Tigo Columbia, Bouygues Telecom France.
11. Enables user to make and receive 3G voice calls without call drops when using both Google Maps and the iPAQ Trip Guide navigation software (sold separately) concurrently.

PREREQUISITES:
– Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 (or later) is required for Host PC which is running with Microsoft Windows XP or 2000.
– Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) is required for Host PC which is running with Microsoft Windows Vista.

HOW TO USE:

1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE to a directory on your hard drive.

2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to unpack the ROM update files to a directory. (NOTE: This directory should not contain any file or folder from any previous ROM upgrade)

3. Establish an ActiveSync connection between the iPAQ device and the host PC using a USB connection.

4. The ROM Update Utility (hpRUU.exe) starts automatically. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the ROM upgrade.

NOTE: Once the update is complete, the .EXE file downloaded in Step 1 can be deleted, if desired.

INSTALLATION NOTES:

1. During the update, the ROM Update Utility:
– Queries the iPAQ device for current ROM image information.
– Validates that the new ROM image is compatible with the iPAQ device.
– Automatically places the iPAQ device in Flash mode.
– Updates the ROM image on the iPAQ device.

2. IMPORTANT: Disable the Standby and Hibernation modes on the host PC. If Standby or Hibernation mode is activated during the upgrade process, a critical error may occur.

3. IMPORTANT: Plan enough time to complete the update. The total time to perform this ROM update is estimated at 40 minutes.

4. IMPORTANT: Do not interact with the HP iPAQ device or remove it from AC power or the cradle/cable once the status bar appears on the iPAQ device and the actual update has started.

5. If an error message is displayed during the update process, follow any available instructions to correct the condition and start the ROM Update Utility again.

6. The update process can be performed while connected to a host PC either as a Guest or with an established partnership.
